My Teaching Philosophy

my teaching philosophy

I believe that all children are unique in their own special way and we should respect them for who they are. I aim to help my students express themselves and accept themselves for who they are, as well embrace the differences of others. I also want to create a safe and caring classroom environment for my students to speak their minds and grow.

Values

Values

Some values that I hold very close to my heart are Compassion, Patience, Respect and Responsibility. Hover over the symbols below to read more!

COMPASSION

I think that         it is very important to have compassion  as it gives us the ability to understand someone else's
situation and the desire
to take action to
improve their
lives.
As children are young and
playful at times, you have
to be patient with them
and teach them right
from wrong.
It is           critical
to have          patience in

PATIENCE

the early
childhood
industry.

RESPONSIBILITY

I think that being
responsible is a
key value as there
will be many
children under
our care in the
future and we
are reponsible
for their safety
and well-being.

RESPECT

It is important to
respect the children under your care as they deserve as much respect as they are showing you.

Teamwork and Perseverance

  • Communication skills

  • Skill building

  • Conflict resolution

  • Personable and outgoing

  • Teamwork

  • Resilience

  • Time management

During my time in Ngee Ann Polytechnic, I managed to hone skills such as resilience and teamwork. We had many projects that required us to work in a group and it was important for everyone to be good team players. There were times when we met with some obstacles while brainstorming for different ideas but we did not give up and managed to find a suitable idea.

As I am also serving in my church as an ambassador and a Sunday school teacher, it was not easy to juggle school, co-curricular activities as well as my other commitments. Despite feeling exhausted at times, I learnt to persevere and not give up during tough times. I also understood the importance of planning my time well and ensure that I am able to complete tasks before their due dates.

Professional Skills

  • Fluent in English and Mandarin

  • Classroom Management

  • Curriculum planning

  • Routine care

During practicum sessions in Year 1 and 2, I managed to learn more about effective classroom management strategies from my mentors. I also had the opportunity to apply the strategies that I learnt during my 6-month internship in Year 3 as well as designing and planning different lessons and activities for Kindergarten 2 children.

I also learnt the importance of routine care in the early childhood industry and had the experience of changing children's diapers and making milk for the playgroup children during my time as a relief teacher.

Technical Skills

I had the opportunity to apply technical skills such as the use of the platforms mentioned in school. For example, I used applications like Canva and Picsart to create posters and iMovie to edit videos. I also used Microsoft Powerpoint and Google Sheets to create presentation slides.
