Relief teacher | sep 2020-present just kids@bukit panjang

During my time as a Relief Teacher with Just Kids @ Bukit Panjang, I have been attached to the Playgroup, Nursery 1 and Nursery 2 classes according to the need for additional manpower.

Roles and responsibilities:

Assisting the lead teachers during lessons or routine care
Initiating storytelling sessions with the children during free time
Providing support to classes with a lack of manpower
Ensuring the children's safety in the classroom

Through my experience working at the centre, I learnt that it is important to always be alert and to look out for the children. As this is my first time working with children of a younger age group, I managed to gain many new experiences and understand that the needs of younger children are different from the needs of older children who are more independent and are able to do routine care, such as showering and eating by themselves.

Roles and responsibilities:

Created take-home activity kits for the Kindergarten 2 children
Designed an e-storybook on land transport vehicles for the Kindergarten 2 children
Planned a field trip for the Kindergarten 2 children to the Emergency Preparedness Centre/Civil Defence Heritage Gallery (could not be carried out due to the Covid-19 situation)
Planned and implemented age-appropriate lesson plans in the different domains (e.g. Numeracy, Discovery of the World, etc.)
Created a child e-portfolio using Google Slides with observation records, developmental checklists and work samples
Assisted the teacher with health check-up, arrivals and dismissals
Supervised and ensured the children's safety during routine activities and lessons
Initiated storytelling sessions with the children during free time

Through this experience, I realised that teachers should maintain a good relationship with parents and communication is key. Teachers and parents should have a good partnership as their relationship with each other will directly affect the child. As the Covid-19 situation affected my internship due to the Circuit Breaker and other factors, I learnt how to be adaptable and flexible in different situations and how to react quickly in unexpected situations.

During my time as a Teacher Assistant (Intern) with PCF Sparkletots @ Zhenghua Blk 455A, I have been attached to the Kindergarten 2 class with 25 children for the morning session. Occasionally, I would also be attached to the Nursery 2 class or the Kindergarten 1 class for the afternoon session according to the need for additional manpower.

practicum | aug 2019-sep 2019

just kids@bukit panjang

During my practicum in Year 2, I was attached to Just Kids @ Bukit Panjang for a month. During this period, I was attached to the Kindergarten 1 class with 18 children.

Roles and responsibilities:

Assisted the class teacher in ensuring the children's safety during routine activities and lessons
Planned and implemented 3 age-appropriate lessons on Numeracy, Music and Movement, and Art
Initiated storytelling sessions with the children during free time
Assisted the class teacher by being attached to a child suspected with special needs
Created Learning Centre materials based on the Kindergarten 1 children's learning needs
Designed the notice board in the classroom according to the theme of the term

Through this practicum session, I had the opportunity to build a close relationship with my mentor and the children. I also realised the importance of having good classroom management and how setting rules and expectations is essential for a successful lesson implementation. It also showed me how diverse a preschool setting is and how teachers have to learn to be adaptable and always put the children first.

service crew | APR 2019-May 2019 | woods and prints (amazon web services summit singapore 2019)

During the Amazon Web Services Summit event that was held in Singapore in 2019, I was tasked to oversee and look after the guests at the event as part of the service crew.

Roles and responsibilities:

Usher guests and VIPs
Provide directions to delegates
Gave out goodie bags
Welcome guests to the event

Through this working experience, I learnt that communication is very important. As there were some incidents that occurred during the event due to miscommunication between the service crew, I realised that relaying the accurate information is crucial for an event to run smoothly.

part time mooncake promoter | sep 2018-oct 2018 goodwood park hotel

During the semester break in 2018, I took the opportunity to take up a part-time contract job promoting mooncakes for Goodwood Park Hotel at a booth located at Jurong Point for a month.

Roles and responsibilities:

Preparing mooncake samples for the customers to try
Promoting mooncakes to people walking by the booth
Stock-taking to ensure that the correct number of stocks were delivered
Handling card and cash transactions at the booth
Ensuring that customers received the correct order

Through my experience working as a mooncake promoter, I learnt that it is very important to put customers first. As this is a service industry, customer's satisfaction is very crucial and we should have a good attitude while working. It is also important to communicate with the other workers in the booth so that we are able to deliver the mooncakes to the customer in the shortest amount of time. Therefore, both teamwork and communication skills are essential skills to have.

Practicum | apr 2018-june 2018

childfirst preschool (king albert park)

During the first semester in 2018, I was assigned to ChildFirst Preschool @ King Albert Park for a weekly practicum session over a period of ten weeks. I was attached to the Kindergarten 2 class with 15 children.

Roles and responsibilities:

Assisted the teacher in routine care activities
Conducted a child observation study
Initiated storytelling sessions with the children during free time

Through my experience at the centre, I realised that I really enjoy interacting with children and spending time with them. Even though I did not conduct any lessons with the children, I had the opportunity to read stories to them which made me feel very content.

Banquet server | dec 2017-jan 2018 | primarius group

During my time as a banquet server under Primarius, I worked at hotel buffets as service crew and also at banquets during events like company dinners and weddings.

Roles and responsibilities:

Maintained event cleanliness during service by promptly clearing dishes after each course
Guided arriving guests to tables, took drink orders and relayed information to bartenders
Checked on tables and drink needs while refilling water glasses and bringing supplies to customers
Loaded trays with accessories, including eating utensils, napkins and condiments

Through this experience, I learnt how to be adaptable and patient. As this was my first job, I was rather nervous at the beginning. However, with the help of the other staff, I managed to learn more about customer service and different etiquettes which I will never forget.
